Foundation Course Success – Auttaviaus OMEGA
Auttaviaus sought a local club to fulfil his ambition to become a licensed Radio Amateur. Contact was eventually set up within a week with John Goodall GØSKR, Lead Instructor for Christchurch Amateur Radio Society. It was ascertained, that due to Auttaviaus being confined to a wheelchair, he would be unable to attend CARS, even though they have wheelchair access. John agreed to conduct the Foundation Course at the home address of Auttaviaus, and on the 14th October started the course with Auttaviaus.
The course progressed with Auttaviaus completing his on VHF and HF via John's car. John was able to park his vehicle, fully equipped with HF, VHF and UHF, in the driveway at the home of Auttaviaus. Auttaviaus was then able to take his wheelchair alongside John's car, operating via the open front passengers door.
The Foundation Examination was booked and due to be held at the home of Auttaviaus on 29th November 2003. Unfortunately Auttaviaus was admitted to Poole Hospital for the foreseeable future. John confirmed with the Hospital that they would allow the examination to be held in the Hospital, in the spacious day suite. Contact was made with the Radiocommunications Agency and the Radio Society of Great Britain to ascertain there would be no objections to the exam being held in the hospital.
At 1600, Saturday 29th November 2003, Rob Burrows G6DUN, First Named Invigilator and I as second invigilator, attended Poole Hospital where Mr Auttaviaus OMEGA took the Foundation Examination. The result speaks for itself, Auttaviaus passed, failing to get 100% by one question! The top Photograph shows Auttaviaus in his wheelchair on the left, Rob G6DUN First Invigilator in the centre and John GØSKR in his wheelchair, on the right.
Congratulations to everyone with special thanks to Poole Hospital, the RA and the RSGB for permitting this successful event.
